コミュニケーション要素の違いで考えると、twitter が「ボクはいまこんなこと思ったり感じたり息したりしてるよ。」と宣言しているのであれば、tumbler は「ボクはいま、これを見て何かを感じている。」という宣言、むしろ「これ、どう思う？（ヤバくない？）」と、誰かに共感をもとめて掲載している感がありますね。

twitter と同じでユーザー間で特定のやり取りがすぐに発生するわけでもないし、後で自分で気に入ったモノを眺められるという意味では、スクラップブックのコレクション的な感じ。　活発な男子がやりそうな、学校に持っていて皆と眺め合う、という雰囲気も持ち合わせていますから、雑多な情報の中に突如女性のヌード写真が現れることが多いのも特徴ではないでしょうか（笑）

なので tumblr は話題性の高い twitter と利用すればバズに適していると思います。
